THERMA-TRU DOORS KEEP HOMES ON-TREND & ENERGY-EFFICIENT
New Options to Make Homes Attractive & Comfy, Add Resale Value Down the Road

MAUMEE, OHIO (September 10, 2008) ― As homeowners hunker down to ride out the housing slump, remodelers can offer a wealth of new products to help them keep their homes in tip-top shape for eventual resale down the road — from entryway upgrades that add personalization and curb appeal, to energy-efficient materials that save household costs and keep homes more comfortable.

According to consumer research firm Iconoculture Inc., the economy is causing consumers to remain in their current homes longer, yet they are still striving to upgrade them for financial and personal reasons.1 And, as homeowners grapple with skyrocketing energy costs, they are turning to remodelers for money-saving solutions, according to the National Association of Homebuilders’ NAHB Quarterly Remodeling Index. In fact, 33 percent of the surveyed remodelers reported that they are increasingly called upon to improve the energy efficiency of their clients’ homes. 2

“Today’s advanced door and glass manufacturing technologies give remodelers more solutions than ever. With just a few simple changes, they can upgrade a home’s entryway, enhance its architectural appeal and add personalization, while increasing its energy efficiency and comfort,” says Jim McElroy, general manager, product marketing, Therma-Tru Doors.

Energy-Efficient Doors Dry Fast With New Same-Day Stain™
At a time when energy-efficiency, speed and cost-savings are foremost in consumers’ minds, all Therma-Tru door systems offer important benefits to remodelers. The company’s durable fiberglass doors are ENERGY STAR qualified and provide five times the insulation of a wood door. Remodels also can be accomplished faster with Therma-Tru’s new Same-Day Stain All-in-One Fiberglass Door Finishing Kit, which makes it possible to stain fiberglass doors in just one day, compared to the 48-hour dry time recommended for traditional stains. Developed exclusively for use with fiberglass doors, the easy-to-apply stain can be rubbed on and blended with a cloth to bring out the rich, wood grain and textures of the door.

At the show, Tom Kraeutler, AOL’s Home Improvement Editor and co-host of ‘The Money Pit’ nationally syndicated home improvement radio show will be demonstrating application of the new Same-Day Stain in the Therma-Tru booth (#621) at the following times throughout the show:

  • Wednesday, September 10 — 1:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 11 — 1:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.

Personalization With Decorative Glass
One of the big trends in remodeling is the desire to make a personal statement, and nothing can do that better than entry doors with decorative glass. Now available in a variety of intricate and colorful designs, remodelers have a wide range of options to offer their customers, providing more economical ways to add personalization to any home.

Therma-Tru has introduced several decorative glass designs for some of the most popular architectural home styles. For example, two new designs — Hazelton™ and Savannah™ — were created to complement Arts & Crafts and Bungalow style of architecture. Hazelton’s geometric pattern embodies the tradition of Craftsman design with shades of amber that stand out against clear bevels and iridescent seeded glass. Emphasizing the movement from ornate Victorian architecture to the American Craftsman with its straightforward floral design, Savannah has a delicate floral motif of amber petals and emerald leaves. The design allows sunlight to dance across iridescent water glass, giving the illusion of early morning dew on a garden.

For a true reflection of Arts & Crafts architecture, Hazelton and Savannah are designed for Therma-Tru’s Classic-Craft® American Style Collection™. The collection provides simplicity, understated and straightforward style, solid construction and uncomplicated design — all hallmarks of the emergence of the bungalow in the early 1900s.

Hazelton and Savannah are available with brushed or black nickel caming for flush-glazed 6-foot-8-inch and 8-foot high doors with 12- or 14-inch full lite flush-glazed sidelites. The decorative glass styles are also available in rectangular transoms for single doors and doors with two sidelites.

For a more contemporary look, Therma-Tru offers new Element glass, which presents a dramatic use of marble-like white colors with accents of red and strong lines of black nickel caming. The beautiful, handcrafted glass was designed by a student at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD) to lend a decorative touch to Therma-Tru’s Smooth-Star® fiberglass, as well as its ProEdge™, Profiles™ and Traditions steel doors. Transcending form over function, Element glass can be selected for single or double doors with sidelites and in a transom. On entryways with multiple lites, the design flows across the doors and sidelites for an integrated look.

Authentic Architectural Details
Another way to keep homes up-to-date for current and future homeowners is to upgrade the entry using an architecturally-authentic door style. According to industry experts, authenticity is another big trend among today’s consumers.

“Quality and authenticity go hand-in-hand with today’s homeowners. Entry doors with authentic architectural details make a great first impression of the home and its owners, and provide an affordable way to add lasting beauty that never goes out of style,” says Tom Kraeutler, AOL’s Home Improvement Editor and co-host of ‘The Money Pit’ nationally syndicated home improvement radio show. “Today’s odelers also have the added advantage of making authentic stylistic changes using technologically-advanced building materials with substantial performance and durability features.”

Therma-Tru helps remodelers meet this need by expanding its Classic-Craft® Rustic Collection™ so homeowners who pride themselves in paying attention to detail have more choices at every price point. The importance of style and authentic details is reflected in Therma-Tru’s new decorative accent hardware for its Classic-Craft Rustic Collection, including round and pyramid clavos and strap hinges. Designed for homes that reflect southwestern- or Mediterranean-inspired architecture, the hardware accents bring an authentic hand-hewn look to the Rustic Collection door. The hardware is corrosion-resistant and has a black powder coated finish.

The Rustic Collection harkens back to an era when artisans meticulously crafted each wood door by hand. The new doors replicate the look of natural stained wood thanks to Therma-Tru’s patented AccuGrain™ Technology, which provides the textures and feel of real wood, yet will not rot, warp or split like a traditional wood door.

Decorative glass options to complement the Rustic Collection include new flush-glazed full-lite obscure sidelites. Available in Chinchilla, Granite and Rain glass, the sidelites are designed to coordinate with two of Therma-Tru’s other recent glass introductions — Augustine™ and Camino™.
