NEW COASTAL ASTRAGAL HELPS DOUBLE DOORS SURVIVE HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS
New Styles Available for 6'8", 8' Heights and Inswing, Outswing Applications
MAUMEE, OH (April 19, 2006) — Astragals for double door
systems add stability and prevent drafts from entering the home. The
astragal closes the clearance gap to provide a weather seal, minimize
the passage of light between the doors or retard the passage of smoke or
flame during a fire. Now, it can stand up to nature’s fury. Therma-Tru®
is introducing the "Coastal Astragal 2," which looks like a normal
astragal, but can withstand hurricane force winds.
The new Astragal is available in several unique configurations. It is offered for 6'8" and 8' heights, inswing and outswing
applications, and white or bronze colors. The installation of the
Coastal Astragal is as simple as the Standard Aluminum Astragal. It

longer throw to engage in the head jamb and sill for increased
holding power. In addition, a steel pin and superior boot design seal against
air and water leaks.
The Design Pressure (DP) ratings for the new Coastal Astragal 2 range from DP47 to DP55, based on the door collection. For example, the 6'8" Fiber-Classic® and Smooth-Star® Glazed lines have a DP47 rating, while the Classic-Craft® Opaque Collection™ has a DP55 rating.
